We''ll have to wait until the 28 inches of snow melt...and then the ground dries up a bit. It's usually not safe to start planting until mid-May around here -- but we are planning the vegetable beds already! We have tried to start asparagus this year, to add to the potatoes, onions, beans, carrots, beets, lettuces and peas....and then we can bring the herbs outside for the summer!

Nope. Not until after mother's day, that's the rule we've always followed. We still have snow on the ground, this is no time to plant anything! My poor tulips started popping up a few weeks ago when weather was warm, then this blizzard took them by surprise.

I am going to be community gardening this year with my 3 year old daughter. Phoebe loves flowers, and cucumbers, and asked for bites of squash so I am hoping the community gardening organization has lots to choose from! Having our own seeds would be great to help here too, as they provide seeds for 2 of the raised beds, and plow 2 additional beds for personal use, but they never got used last year by anyone.

I plant all kinds of flowers i have a huge lot and have been working for years to transform it into a beautiful sanctuary to rest and entertain. I have added herbs and vegetables to add depth and contrast.

we will be planting tomatoes, peppers, kale, peas, zucchini, pumpkin, lettuce, potatoes, and gourds in our vegetable garden but we also have tons of flowerbeds and fruit trees that we grow also!

I haven't started yet because the weather has been so back and forth around here--snow one day and 85 degrees a few days later. I hope to do it pretty soon though!

I am already growing tomatoes and lettuce indoors. I have 5 tomato plants and 1 lettuce plant. I had one tomato plant from last summer that lasted thru the winter producing tomatoes indoors. I have just planted an additional 2 tomato pods. I am just a seedy character!

9 degrees this morning here in NW Wisconsin. We don't get to plant until the end of May-early June before we are not at risk for frost.

We already have bell peppers, scallion, and basil growing because the winter was so mild; it's almost time to pick some peppers! We will plant heirloom tomatoes and melons this week. I love my organic, patio-container garden.

carrots & corn & beans--oh my--taters & peas &tomaters--sky high--eggplants, cukes, pickles, & melons so round--onions & more till I run out of ground!!!!

Last year we attempted tomatoes, and it didn't go so well. We might try that again this year or do something completely different.

We always plant our vegetable garden but also plant a beautiful flower garden with zenia seeds, coreopsis seeds, daisy seeds and many more

So far we have spaghetti squash, cowpeas, tomatoes, russet potatoes, sweep potatoes, peanuts, marjoram, rosemary, jalapenos, okra, and chocolate mint. Plus, yesterday we bought some blueberry bushes, mojito mint, lemon thyme, and dill to get planted today. 😀

I planted about 10 different varieties of tomato seeds yesterday! You can never eat too many tomato sandwiches during the summer!

waiting, we had snow covering my sprouting crocus, daffodils, and tulips. I will be planting zinnias, nasturtium, sunflower, sweet pea and cosmos among many other annuals.

Onions and broccoli are already planted and the lettuce, carrots, turnips and radishes are going in once a week over the next 4 weeks. It will then be time to put the tomatoes and peppers in followed by green beans and corn, melons, cukes and squash (plants started earlier). Of course in between all that is the ornamental side of the garden some of which is interspersed in the veggie garden just because flowers are beautiful, never mind all the benefits.

I have tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and squash started inside. I can't move them outside until at least the middle of April. I plant more directly into the ground at that time also.

Yes, We have the tomato we started from seeds in small pots waiting to transfer into the ground and my tulip flowers are starting to bloom along with the amaryllis and gardenias. My roses bloomed all winter, they are growing taller and are still blooming. I have shared bouquets of roses with all my neighbors all winter long.

We can't plant until around end of May in my area but I have ordered all my tomato plants so I'm anxious! I've been saving egg shells all winter in a bag in my freezer. Soon I will spread them out on a baking sheet and put them in the oven to dry out. Then I'll grind them up in my food processor. When I plant my tomatoes I put a scoop of ground egg shell, a spoonful of epsom salt & a spoonful of dry milk in each hole. I get healthy tomatoes and no blossom end rot. I also sprinkle ground up egg shells around my bedding plants to keep slugs away.

Once we get our home sold, and moved to our new one, I would love to plant some herbs, vegetables, and citrus trees. A butterfly and hummingbird garden would be great as well, with a bird feeder, bird bath, and a decorative piece in the center. I can't wait!
